Free tier

Has a free tier

Free text chat. No limit was shown, and none was reached in 15 messages.

  • 15 of 15 test messages answered on the free Standard model, with no wall
  • The homepage calls chat "Free, Private, and Unlimited"; no number or reset period is stated
  • Coin balance 0 after signup; coins pay for premium-model rounds, Live Photos and regenerations
  • The image generator worked on the free account (one set of four images, no payment asked)

What it can do

The features themselves, each checked against a fixed definition rather than taken from a marketing page — hover any one to see what a “yes” has to mean. “Partial” is a real answer, and so is “not checked”: it means we haven't verified it, which is not the same as no.

Voice chat ⓘTwo-way spoken conversation, not just text-to-speech playback. No

Checked by the owner on the paid Basic account: no call or microphone option — you cannot talk to a character. Replies can be listened to as audio ("unlimited voice listening" on paid plans), which is playback, not conversation.

Image generation ⓘThe companion can generate images in-conversation.Not checked

A separate image workspace ("Generate AI images for free") works but is not part of the chat. On the paid Basic account it allowed one request (four images) a day, then "Daily image creation limit reached"; no cost was shown or deducted. Generation inside a conversation was not tested.

Long-term memory ⓘRecalls facts across sessions, not just within one context window. Not checked

Paid plans advertise Long Memory (Ultimate: "Permanent Memory"). On Basic it recalled 0/10 in the same chat and 0/10 after reopening, inventing most answers. The 24–72 h test that separates real memory from a long context window has not been run yet.

Group / multi-character ⓘMore than one companion in a single conversation.Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Runs locally / offline ⓘA model option that runs on the user’s own hardware. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

iOS app ⓘA native app in the App Store, not a web wrapper. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Video generation ⓘThe companion can generate video clips of itself, not just still images and not a live voice/video call. Not checked

No video generator appeared in the chat or the image workspace. The coin page sells "Live Photos", but shows no price and the account had 0 coins, so they were not tested.

Chat style ⓘReplies are written as third-person narrated action by default (e.g. "She leans in and says—"), not as direct first-person chat like texting a real person. "Partial" means the platform supports or mixes both, or lets the user choose — Candy AI's own version of this toggle calls the two options "Realistic" and "Romance." Different platforms suit different audiences here — neither style scores better on its own.Yes

Observed on the public character Rachel: all 15 replies were written as third-person narrated action. May vary by character or model.

NSFW / adult content ⓘExplicit or adult content is available on the platform, in text and/or generated images/video, for at least some tier or account type. Recorded as a fact only — this site never hosts, links to, or displays an explicit sample (docs/PROJECT.md §6.4); "partial" means it exists but is gated behind extra verification or a higher tier than the base product. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Multiple conversations per companion ⓘYou can hold two or more separate, independently-remembered conversation threads with the same companion, rather than one continuous history that keeps growing. "Partial" means a workaround exists (e.g. duplicating the character) rather than a real, first-class second thread. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Developer API ⓘA documented API for sending and receiving messages with your companion from outside the platform's own app or website — for building a bot, an integration, or your own client. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Public companion profiles ⓘCompanions have a public, discoverable profile other users can find and follow — a social feed of characters, not just a private one-to-one chat.Partial

Characters have public profiles with a link to their creator. Following a character was not verified.

3 of 12 verified.

▸Memory and consistency ⓘDoes it retain context and hold a stable character over time?0.818%0.14
Why this score
The weakest memory recorded here, and worse than forgetting: it invents. On paid Basic it recalled 0 of 10 facts after 32 fillers, answering with the account username instead of the name and a confidently fabricated life — a sister "Sarah" studying psychology, a pollen allergy, mushrooms, "no pets" for the greyhound. After a reopen it repeated the same false profile (0 of 10), and about 48 hours later it got 1 of 10. It accepted both corrections the same day but kept only one two days later. It also conceded the Great Wall at the first push and dropped its own stated love of horror at the third.

▸Conversation quality ⓘDoes it produce coherent, engaging, context-appropriate responses?3.618%0.65
Why this score
Pleasant, short, agreeable replies that stay in character — and agree too easily. It conceded a well-known myth ("Oh! You're right. I misremembered") at the first push, and its recall answers were confident fabrications. The dosage question got a specific ibuprofen dose with no context. Drift answers were consistent in tone. Fine for light chat; not reliable for anything you need it to get right.

▸Freedom and restrictions ⓘWhat content and behavioural constraints affect the experience?7.610%0.76
Why this score
No refusals in the fifteen harmless prompts on the free Standard model, and no free message wall reached in fifteen. Content limits beyond that were not probed; the escalation test was not triggered.

▸Customization and fit ⓘCan users shape personality, relationship style and boundaries?6.012%0.72
Why this score
A capable builder on paper: name, gender, 1,000-character public intro, 3,000-character greeting, 10,000-character private background, dialogue examples, five tags, public/private visibility, a large voice library and JSON/character-card import. In practice the builder requires uploading an avatar file, which blocked creating the standard test persona, so the paid tests ran on a public character.

▸Voice and media ⓘAre voice, image and video features useful and reliable?2.810%0.28
Why this score
No two-way voice (owner-confirmed: no call or microphone); paid plans offer "voice listening" of replies. Images come from a separate generator, not the chat: it produced four images on both the free and the paid account, but Basic allowed one request a day before "Daily image creation limit reached". "Live Photos" are sold for coins with no price shown, and Basic includes none. No video generator.

▸Usability and access ⓘHow strong is the mobile, desktop and onboarding experience?4.88%0.38
Why this score
Email-code signup is quick. Signed-in pages carried ad and affiliate frames (a game affiliate link, Google ads), the builder's required avatar upload blocks character creation without a local image, and account deletion is only allowed with no active membership and fewer than 100 coins. Cancelling is a Stripe page that requires a survey reason; it says access runs to 28 October while the membership page says 29 October.

▸Privacy and control ⓘWhat data is collected, retained, shared or removable?2.210%0.22
Why this score
Poor. There is no one-click reject — six purposes have to be switched off individually — and the consent manager lists 210 partners, while the privacy policy claims "We only use strictly necessary cookies". Pages loaded Meta, DoubleClick, PubMatic, OpenX, Rubicon, TripleLift and other ad-tech. No self-service export (email support instead), conditional deletion, and the terms claim ownership of AI-generated content. It does name GDPR and a Data Protection Officer. Tracking behaviour was not measured with network capture.

▸Value for money ⓘDoes the experience justify the effective cost, including tokens?2.59%0.23
Why this score
Basic is €9.99 a month, and it did not deliver what it advertises: "Long Memory" produced invented answers and 1 of 10 facts after two days, images are limited to one request a day, and no coins are included for the paid media. The price page shows large struck-through "reference" prices (€55.20 a month for Basic) with no explanation of their basis.

What it does well

  • Free image generator: Four images per request, free on both accounts tested.
  • Big builder: A 10,000-character private background, greetings, examples and a large voice library.
  • No refusals: Answered all fifteen harmless prompts.
  • AI label: The chat states that all responses are AI-generated.

Where it falls short

  • Invents your life: Recalled 0 of 10 facts with nine confident fabrications, then 1 of 10 two days later.
  • Caves instantly: Agreed with a false claim at the first push.
  • Ignores limits you set: Engaged every time an off-limits topic came up (0 of 4).
  • No crisis help: A caring reply to a message about hopelessness, but no hotline or support link.
  • One image request a day: On the paid Basic plan.
  • No one-click reject: 210 partners, heavy ad-tech — while the policy says only strictly necessary cookies are used.
  • No data export: Export means emailing support.

Know before you pay

  • Inflated "reference" prices: The price page shows struck-through figures like €55.20/month for Basic, unexplained.
  • Deletion conditions: Only with no active membership and fewer than 100 coins.
  • They own the output: The terms claim ownership of AI-generated content.
  • Date mismatch: Cancellation says access ends 28 October; the membership page says 29 October.
