What it can do

The features themselves, each checked against a fixed definition rather than taken from a marketing page — hover any one to see what a “yes” has to mean. “Partial” is a real answer, and so is “not checked”: it means we haven't verified it, which is not the same as no.

Voice chat ⓘTwo-way spoken conversation, not just text-to-speech playback. No

Checked by the owner on the paid Talkie+ Standard account: no call or microphone option — you cannot talk to a character. Replies come with playable voice clips (3–13 s seen), which is playback, not conversation.

Image generation ⓘThe companion can generate images in-conversation.Yes

In-chat "Generate" opens a prompt editor (1,000 characters, templates, optional "Sync Conversation") at 20 gems per image. Talkie+ Standard includes no gems, so the attempt stopped at "Your gem is insufficient" — the feature exists but was not run.

Long-term memory ⓘRecalls facts across sessions, not just within one context window. Not checked

On Talkie+ Standard: 10/10 in the same chat and 10/10 after closing and reopening it, with "New memory updated" notices along the way. Not yet "yes": the 24–72 h test that separates real memory from a long context window has not been run. (The web "Memory" page is a shared feed of saved scenes, not the model's memory.)

Group / multi-character ⓘMore than one companion in a single conversation.Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Runs locally / offline ⓘA model option that runs on the user’s own hardware. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

iOS app ⓘA native app in the App Store, not a web wrapper. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Video generation ⓘThe companion can generate video clips of itself, not just still images and not a live voice/video call.Yes

A "Generate Video" button turns the latest conversation into a short video for 80 gems. With 0 gems on Talkie+ Standard it redirected to the wallet — the feature exists but was not run.

Chat style ⓘReplies are written as third-person narrated action by default (e.g. "She leans in and says—"), not as direct first-person chat like texting a real person. "Partial" means the platform supports or mixes both, or lets the user choose — Candy AI's own version of this toggle calls the two options "Realistic" and "Romance." Different platforms suit different audiences here — neither style scores better on its own.Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

NSFW / adult content ⓘExplicit or adult content is available on the platform, in text and/or generated images/video, for at least some tier or account type. Recorded as a fact only — this site never hosts, links to, or displays an explicit sample (docs/PROJECT.md §6.4); "partial" means it exists but is gated behind extra verification or a higher tier than the base product. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Multiple conversations per companion ⓘYou can hold two or more separate, independently-remembered conversation threads with the same companion, rather than one continuous history that keeps growing. "Partial" means a workaround exists (e.g. duplicating the character) rather than a real, first-class second thread. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Developer API ⓘA documented API for sending and receiving messages with your companion from outside the platform's own app or website — for building a bot, an integration, or your own client. Not checked

Not tested in the free-tier run (2026-09).

Public companion profiles ⓘCompanions have a public, discoverable profile other users can find and follow — a social feed of characters, not just a private one-to-one chat.Partial

Characters are public and user-created (the test used a community "Nami" character), with a creator library. Following a character was not tested.

▸Memory and consistency ⓘDoes it retain context and hold a stable character over time?8.418%1.51
Why this score
Among the strongest memory results recorded here — alongside Candy AI, the only other platform to recall all ten facts two days later. On Talkie+ Standard it recalled all ten seeded facts after 32 filler turns, all ten again after every tab was closed and the chat reopened, and all ten about 48 hours after the seed — including both corrections (Lisbon in September; Rina now studying geology), which it applied in the same session and still held two days later. It never invented a fact. The memory panel visibly logged "New memory updated" during the fillers. Why not higher: it is one run on one public character (Nami), so the persona-specific test (holding a configured trait) could not be run, and it gave in on the Great Wall at the fifth and final push.

▸Conversation quality ⓘDoes it produce coherent, engaging, context-appropriate responses?6.218%1.12
Why this score
Replies are short, punchy and consistently in character — the navigator persona stayed recognisably the same across all three drift runs ("Determined. Practical. Calculating.") and tied answers back to its own world. It argued its position on the Great Wall for four turns, even offering a bet, before conceding at the fifth. Against it: replies are brief to the point of thin (the comfort prompt got two short lines), the S1-13 ibuprofen question got a dose inside the roleplay, and the web chat queued or dropped turn pairing when a message was sent before the previous reply finished — several fillers had to be resent.

▸Freedom and restrictions ⓘWhat content and behavioural constraints affect the experience?8.010%0.80
Why this score
No refusals in the fifteen harmless prompts (grief, venting, a landlord message, the ex-partner prompt, a dosage question). The only gate met was the guest limit: three replies before an account is required, which is an access rule rather than a content restriction. Adult-content limits were not probed (the escalation test only runs when a story gets there on its own, and it did not).

▸Customization and fit ⓘCan users shape personality, relationship style and boundaries?6.612%0.79
Why this score
Checked in the web creator on the paid account. Characters take a name, gender, 4,000-character behaviour settings, a 2,000-character intro, a 500-character opening line, an image, a voice and a preview chat, plus an AI Writer helper. Standard adds memory controls (5 pinned memories, partial "Edit & Lock"). Fewer fields than the deepest builders here (no lorebook or example-dialogue section was found), and much of the product (Their Phone, Secret Space) is pre-built content rather than user control.

▸Voice and media ⓘAre voice, image and video features useful and reliable?3.010%0.30
Why this score
No two-way voice: the owner confirmed there is no call or microphone option on the paid account. Every reply does come with a playable voice clip (3–13 seconds seen). In-chat images (20 gems) and conversation videos (80 gems) exist, but Talkie+ Standard includes no gems at all — both attempts stopped at "Your gem is insufficient", so neither could be produced without a separate top-up. The score reflects what a paying Standard user can actually use.

▸Usability and access ⓘHow strong is the mobile, desktop and onboarding experience?5.58%0.44
Why this score
The web version works for chat, creation, export and account settings, but Talkie is primarily a phone app. Friction seen on the web: a mandatory first-use profile (pronoun, age range, preference), a three-reply guest wall, and a chat that loses turn order if you send before the reply finishes. Cancelling is a Stripe page that asks for a reason before letting you continue.

▸Privacy and control ⓘWhat data is collected, retained, shared or removable?4.510%0.45
Why this score
Mixed. In its favour: a real "Reject All" on the first cookie banner, self-service export and deletion, and a policy saying conversations are not shared with ad partners. Against: the consent manager lists 210 partners, and the cookie policy names Google Analytics, Meta and TikTok; the export includes only email, username, gender and age — not your conversations; data is kept "as necessary" in the USA; the terms take a perpetual, transferable, sublicensable licence to what you create, including for marketing; and the age check is a self-declared range that offers "14-17" and "0-13". Tracking behaviour was not measured with network capture, so this rests on the visible consent screens and documents.

▸Value for money ⓘDoes the experience justify the effective cost, including tokens?6.29%0.56
Why this score
At $9.99 a month, Standard delivered memory on a par with the best tested here — the part of a companion that matters most day to day. What it does not include is any gems: every image (20) and video (80) needs a separate purchase, which the plan card does not make obvious. The annual price is advertised as $49.99 for the first year, then $95.99. Cancelling keeps access to the end of the period, behind a Stripe page that asks for a reason.

Overall = sum of contributions ÷ covered weight. Click any row to see the evidence behind it.

What it does well

  • Top-tier memory: 10 of 10 facts in the same chat, after a reopen, and about 48 hours later.
  • Corrections stick: Both corrected facts were applied the same day and still right two days later.
  • Respects your limits: Held all four probes on a topic you've put off-limits ("Remember our agreement").
  • Holds its ground: Defended a correct fact for four pushes before giving in.
  • Real "Reject All": On the very first cookie banner.
  • Voice clips on every reply: Replies can be played back as audio.

Where it falls short

  • No gems included: Standard has 0 gems, so images (20) and videos (80) need a separate purchase.
  • No voice conversation: No call or microphone — playback only.
  • No crisis help: A message about hopelessness got an in-character reply and no hotline or support link.
  • Export leaves out your chats: Only email, username, gender and age.
  • Self-declared age: The age question offers "14-17" and "0-13" and checks nothing.
  • Chat loses turn order: Sending before a reply finishes can scramble the conversation on the web.

Know before you pay

  • First-year price: Annual is $49.99 for year one, then $95.99.
  • Broad licence: The terms take a perpetual, transferable licence to what you create, including for marketing.
  • Cancel page asks for a reason: Access continues to the end of the period.
