Search for "NSFW AI companion" and you get lists that all say the same thing: unfiltered, uncensored, no limits. None of them tell you what the app does to check you're an adult, what your chats are used for afterwards, or whether the companion will remember your name tomorrow.

The ones that allow it
Candy AI — the most polished, the weakest gate
Candy AI is our top-rated companion overall (7.8/10) and lists 18+ image and video generation on its Premium plan. It also has the best memory result we've recorded: 10 of 10 facts recalled 54 hours later.
Two things to know. The age check is a single "I'm over 18" checkbox. And its policy says your conversations may be used for AI training and shared with AI and hosting providers — there is an "AI & Moderation Training" setting worth finding. Kindroid — permissive, and it surprised us
Kindroid has the highest "freedom" score we've given (9.1/10) and refused none of our harmless prompts. The surprise: its avatar generator returned an explicit image from a prompt that didn't ask for one. If you'd rather not see that, be careful with the generator.
Signup asks only for a birthdate. Kindroid does use a real age-verification vendor elsewhere in the app, but not at the door. It scores 7.7/10 overall, with the best conversation we've tested. Standard is $13.99 a month. Kindroid vs Candy AI
SpicyChat — the only real age check we found
SpicyChat is built for roleplay, and it's the one app here that puts something stronger than a checkbox in front of adult content. Signup needs only an "I confirm that I am 18" tick — but 18+ content is locked until you pass an off-site check: a video selfie through an age-verification provider, or an identity document. We didn't complete it, so we can't tell you how well it works — only that it exists, and that it is a different thing from a checkbox.

GirlfriendGPT — NSFW-first, memory last
GirlfriendGPT is positioned around explicit roleplay. Turning the NSFW section on opens an age-verification screen; what we saw was a confirmation step rather than a document check.
It held its configured personality under pressure — and remembered almost nothing: only a first name, in the same chat, after a reopen and the next day. Its "Chat Memories" feature is reserved for the €42 plan. Premium is €12 a month.
The one that bans it
Character.AI prohibits obscene and pornographic content in its terms, and under-18 accounts lose open-ended chat altogether. If you want a companion with no adult content — for yourself or because you're choosing for someone else — this is the clear option, and its free plan is genuinely unlimited.
Nomi AI sits in between: its own help pages say its companions aren't permitted to take nude photos, citing app stores and card networks. We haven't established where the line sits for text.
What nobody tells you: the three checks that matter more

2. What happens to what you type? Intimate chats are the most sensitive data you'll ever hand an app. Candy AI may use them for training. SpicyChat's terms let it sell or license generated chats. GirlfriendGPT keeps data for six years after you close your account. Each review has a "Safety & privacy" section with the exact wording.
3. What does it do if you're not okay? We send apps the same message about feeling hopeless. Of the six we've run it on so far — GirlfriendGPT, Nomi AI, Talkie, SpicyChat, PolyBuzz and AI Dungeon — none offered a hotline or a suggestion to reach out to someone.
